The 36th Chamber of Shaolin, also known as Master Killer and Shaolin Master Killer, not only features some of the greatest martial arts in the genre's history, but established a template for all action movies that would be followed for decades. Newly restored thanks to Weinstein's kung-fu imprint Dragon Dynasty, 36th Chamber is finally getting the presentation, and moreover, celebration that it deserves - so effectively, in fact, that the DVD not only brings fans of these myriad editions together, but offers them the chance to see even the most familiar moments of the film in a completely new light. King Boxer is certainly one of these thanks to its "genre progenitor" status, but there are other films that became points of reference and inspiration - in particular The 36th Chamber of Shaolin, arguably the greatest martial arts film of all time. But even among these wildly different titles and disparate incarnations, there are a few movies that are virtually always recognized, either because of their stars, their story or their legacy.
